WRITE LIKE AN EGYPTIAN

Next Egypt, I was invited to join the film company to write another corporate video. We met in Cairo for the brief, planning to return to film at a later date.

Immediately fascinated by Egypt, I felt a deep connection, and my cells seemed to resonate with the ancient history that is steeped in the land and atmosphere there. 'Over the horizon' were many biblical and pilgrimage sites calling to me.

In between briefs and location surveys, I was able to conduct a few surveys of some locations of interest for myself.

An uncomfortable camel ride around the pyramids and the Sphinx. The scale is hard to conceive unless you are there as the pyramid towers over you, I wondered about the mastery of building, the geometry, the positioning, and the many more mysteries surrounding it, how were they built, what were their true purpose, their actual position on the earth's grid and relationship to the skies and the stars.

To me, the pyramid again felt at least like a transmitter/ receiver.

No matter how much I jumped up and down in front of the Sphinx, waving my arms in the air and making noises, I couldn't break his gaze or distract him from looking straight ahead to the view in front of him. I turned around and was amazed at the view the Sphinx was now forced to look out at, 'modern' civilization which had crept closer and closer over the years, so many shops, apartments, and flats with hundreds of television aerials filled the view, all within a very short walking distance. Perhaps he was looking into the window of one of the apartments, absorbed with whatever was showing on television.

Antiquities, almost too many for me to take in, I didn't know where to look or what to look at, the Cairo Museum was like a huge warehouse full of tiny figurines to bigger-than-life-size standing and lying sarcophagi, there was pottery and jewelry.

The crowning jewel was Tutankhamen's golden death mask, considered one of the masterpieces of Egyptian art, another superb piece of craftsmanship, it radiated a sense of peace and tranquility. Yet again, I marveled at the skills, creativity and dedication of craftsmen in           ancient times.

A leisurely cruise along the Nile, some breathtakingly beautiful mosques with their incredible tiling and mosaics, standing at the

base of a Crusaders' fort and then looking out over the ancient City of the Dead grave yard /settlement.

I managed to get lost in the colors of huge local markets, and explored so many local cafes and restaurants, each an adventure in fantastic smells and explosions of tastes and feasts for the eyes.

I left looking forward to returning to film, and to continue exploring more of the region..

The script was approved, I was ready to go when the political situation suddenly flared up, and it was cancelled.

It is on the 'bucket list' now.
