THE HEALING POWER OF CH'I

I had decided to have a medical check, the doctor told me my prostate PSA rating was way too high, and I may need to have a biopsy.

I said, "I'll be back in a couple of weeks".

I wanted a second opinion...and asked Master Cheng for his opinion. Using his ability to 'read the Ch'i in my body', he said the gland was a 'little bit dirty'.

He gave me some meditations using my consciousness to focus on and direct energy to the 'troubled area', visualizing it and sending healing white energy there ( In Ch'i Kung, you can focus on specific organs, each having a color, sound, and direction you can use to direct energy there). He encouraged me not to be afraid, which created inner stress and restricted any healing, but to allow my body's innate

self-healing power to start to work. He slightly revised my diet, particularly eliminating shellfish and 'bottom feeders'. Each healing session started with a few minutes of meditation to be 'present'. I felt the room become warm, a heat that seemed to be generated by the power of Master Cheng's meditation, followed by a 'Tui Na,' an ancient form of healing massage.  Master Cheng's hands became hot as he focused healthy Ch'i to circulate along my 'meridians'- the pathways, which, like subtle interconnecting veins, carried the energy throughout my body. I also practiced a very simple routine Master Cheng taught in his workshops, little known in the West, called "Fragrant Chi Kung".

After having regular treatments with Master Cheng, I went back for another test. The doctor promised me he would get the results early on Saturday morning and phone them through to me straight away, as he knew I was concerned.

Saturday morning, I picked up a newspaper, and there was a big article on men's prostate problems, the successes and failures of surgery, and all kinds of additional problems.  After an excruciatingly long day trying to contact him, the doctor finally rang in the early evening and said there may have been a glitch in the tests, as all was clear. He also apologized - he had been on the golf course all day and forgotten his promise to ring me!

Now, 40 years later, the prostate is still going 'strong'!

In workshops, Master Cheng taught a very simple practice on how to circulate Ch'i internally, unlike many forms which involve being aware of specific organs etc, this form encouraged 'detaching the mind from the body' so that the natural intelligence and self organizing ability of the body could be free to do it's 'work'- you could watch television or talk to others you are doing the practice with.

I also started to learnt how to draw or 'pluck' Ch'i from nature to replenish my own,  how to create  ‘golden energy pills' that were to be placed in the 'furnace of the lower diantan' ( the digestive system, the 'store room' of the body's energy) to distribute fresh energy throughout the body.

I am not a great intellectual or a particularly accomplished or disciplined student, and trusted my intuition to guide me to what suited me and what I felt in my heart, and I was feeling the enhancement and alignment to the meditation I was already practising.

“All things share this Chi.

And all are emanating either strong or weak chi.

Some vague, some medial, some strong, some acute,

a few extraordinarily brilliant.

Man exists within Chi, and Chi is within man himself.

From heaven and earth to all kinds of creation,

there is nothing that does not require Ch’i to stay alive.

The man who knows how to circulate his Ch’i maintains

his person and banishes “evils” that may harm him."

Feng shui is another art (or ancient science) that studies the health and flow of ch'i energy in an environment, and can be "adjusted" to harmonize an individual or a group with their surroundings to create a healthy, creative, and harmonious environment.

I began to accompany Master Cheng on consultations, and started to 'see' some of the influences that can affect the health, vitality, and serenity of a premises, and those who live or work there.

The Taoists also believe as we practice Ch'i it returns us to
a state of “child-likeness” (but not childishness),
where we see the world with fresh eyes.
This allows us the freedom to reinvent ourselves easily and constantly,

I also started hosting classes with Master Cheng in my house, and previously had bought a small cottage in Byron Bay.

We decided to have a holiday in this beautiful location that seemed to tick all the Feng Shui boxes, and to run some classes there.

In keeping with being childlike like we also took a little side trip to the amusement park on the Gold Coast, where we "tamed the Dragon" and went for a little joy ride on him!
